If you want to send an email to multiple recipients at once, you can enter all recipient addresses, separated by commas (“,”), in one of the following fields:
- "To"
- "Carbon Copy" (Cc)
- "Blind Carbon Copy" (Bcc).
In all cases, all addresses entered in these fields receive a copy of the message without retyping or re-creating it. But what is the difference between a carbon copy and a blind carbon copy?
A Carbon Copy of a Message
In addition to the message content, the recipients of the “carbon copy” receive a list of the addresses of the direct recipients (via the "To" field) as well as the carbon copy recipients themselves.
This way, they know who the message is being sent to.
The “Carbon Copy” field is typically used to enter the addresses of the people you want to inform or notify of the message content, while the "To" field enters the addresses of the intended or immediate recipients.
Example of Carbon Copy Use
Sending a message to a customer (via the "To" field) with the direct manager and head of sales informed of the message content (via the "CC" field).
Blind Carbon Copy of the Message
Recipients of this group receive a copy of the email as if they were the direct recipients of the message, without mentioning the other recipients, whether they are listed in the "To," "CC," or "CC" fields.
Example of Blind Carbon Copy Use
- Sending a job application or internship to multiple companies at the same time
- Sending congratulatory messages or promotional offers to multiple customers at the same time
